Lamar-Front Range 345 kV Transmission Project

Quick Facts

This proposed project consists of approximately 350 miles of high voltage transmission and has two major components: a Lamar-Comanche 345-kV line and a Lamar-Missile Site 345-kV line.

The proposed project will allow approximately 800-1,000 megawatts of additional generation in Energy Resources Zone 3, interconnected at or near Public Service Company of Colorado’s (PSCo) Lamar Substation. Studies indicate that the area is transmission-deficient and requires a robust backbone network to deliver potential and anticipated generation to load centers in Colorado.

Based on studies and discussions with the Colorado Coordinated Planning Group (CCPG), a joint, high voltage transmission system planning forum, the proposed project is the preferred first phase project to accommodate resources in Energy Resource Zone 3. PSCo and Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association (Tri-State) are actively performing joint technical studies for a coordinated joint participation project, including the execution of a letter agreement describing participation in the proposed project.
