Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Health Concerns

Should I be concerned about any health risks associated with these lines?

There has been considerable research devoted to the subject of health concerns and transmission lines over the past 30 years. Questions and answers prepared by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) can be found at their website. For further information please see Electric and Magnetic Fields fact sheet.

What is EMF?

Electric and magnetic fields (EMF) are created by anything that conducts electricity, including transmission lines, household appliances and business equipment. These fields are strongest closest to their source, so the farther away you are from the source, the less EMF reaches your body. More detailed information is available from the Electric and Magnetic Fields fact sheet.

Decades of scientific and medical research, reviewed by science organizations and government agencies, have found no cause/effect evidence of threats to human health from EMF.
